A LITTLE ABOUT US
We are currently registered with Alliance of Therapy Dogs, formally Therapy Dogs, Inc. and also a certified NATIONAL Crisis Response Canine team.
Our journey to becoming a Therapy Dog Team started with completing a prescreening required to register for the course through West Michigan Therapy Dogs, Inc. We started by taking an 8 week (16 hours) Introduction to Pet Therapy course and after completing the course we went on to pass the West Michigan Therapy Dogs, Inc. evaluation test and three shadowing visits that are required prior to obtaining full membership in WMTD. Team Auggie then decided to obtain a higher level of registration with Pet Partners/Delta Society and completed an online course, an animal health screening, team evaluation by local evaluator, and finally we were a registered team!
We have weekly visits at- Assisted living center where we have a group visit
Nursing home/rehab center
Nursing home that has a special memory wing.
Auggie also likes to help out volunteering for other special events that come up. We have participated in the Ruff Reader Program, Doc Days, Dog Days in the Park, Camp Hope, and a classroom with some wonderful kids with ASD. One of his favorite things to do (not mine) is speaking to groups about what it's like being a therapy dog and spreading the "magic of fur".
Auggie is a Samoyed and was born April 11, 2010. He is officially AKC registered as GCH Solid Gold Vit Krigare THDD CGC. He also holds WS and WSX titles with the Samoyed Club of America. His "call name" is Augustus but to most he is just plain "Auggie". To explain a little about all those letters in his AKC name, here it goes:
GCH=AKC Grand Champion CH=AKC Champion
Vit Krigare= Swedish meaning "White Warrior"
WSX=Working Samoyed Excellent (previously earned WS=Working Samoyed)
THDD=Therapy Dog Distinguished (previously earned THD=Therapy Dog, THDA=Therapy Dog Advanced, and THDX=Therapy Dog Excellent)
CGC=Canine Good Citizen
